Ironman Wifes Marathon MIssion

Thought I better update my blog and announce that although IM is no longer training for anything since China cancellation (in saying that he can't manage to go cold turkey) -  I have been hard at work training for my first marathon!

I have less than 2 weeks to go and don't feel it's quite sunk in what I am about to put myself through.

Very much enjoying the tapering although you do start to wonder will you be prepared enough?

Follow my marathon journey on my other blog - http://ironmanwifesmarathonmission.wordpress.com/

I am running the Gold Coast Marathon.

Heading up there next Friday will keep in contact via Twitter and TwitPic and Flikr and FB.

Got any marathon tips for me?

How things can change....

Well it has been a while since I last posted!

I do have a draft sitting ready to post which never happened because within the couple of days of editing, the story of our triathlon life in 2011 dramatically changed!

I was writing about Ironman's decision to hop on the plane back to China (without supporter wife) to challenge himself on the new Ironman China course and try and grab a spot back to Hawaii.

Well, as many of you may know, Ironman China has been cancelled!

Today Ironman and two of his training partners were meant to hop on that plane but instead we sit here still in shock and with the years triathlon plans in shatters.

Two weeks on since the announcement, and the anger and disappointment has settled slightly and new plans are being put into place.

I could go on and on about the WTC, the cancellation and the effects on the competitors and their families but I won't do that here. I do plan to write an article on it very soon on my TriCrew website.

What I will say is that the 5 months of hard training now seem for nothing. There is no going to another Ironman race this year. There is no chance of returning to Hawaii in 2011.

However, plans must change sometimes, nothing can be done about it, we rethink, re- assess and life goes on.

I do believe in fate and I do think that the lows in life can often lead to the highs, so for Ironman this year it will now be shorter triathlon races, maybe a few bike races and joining his most loyal supporter (me) in my first marathon.

You can read about Ironman Wifes Marathon Mission here.

And I will keep you posted on what next for my Ironman - I know this isn't it :-)

Have you been effected by the China Ironman cancellation? Would love to hear from you.
How do you feel about it?

A new year, new goals and lots to think about...

It's been a while since I have posted. Christmas has come and gone, we have had a relaxing holiday at home, IM is back at work and we are half way through the kid's summer holidays.

Although I have not been writing here, I have still been writing and keeping busy building up content for my TriCrew website - so check it out and subscribe to TriCrew also as I will be adding some new pages soon reporting on Hawaii, China and Busselton (WA) Ironman Events.

A new year is a time for all of us to reflect on the year that has past, and make plans and set goals for the year ahead. I have been in a de-clutter, re-organise and plan mode and it certainly helps me to assess where I am at and where I want to be - start the year refreshed and dreaming big! My latest post on TriCrew I wrote for triathletes discussing the topic of reflection and giving thanks. If you haven't read it yet, click here!

So what is happening in triathlon for our family in 2011?

Training is always happening - in fact I have not trained this much before with my new years goal being my first marathon with IM joining me! Watch this space on how I manage....

Shorter races are the focus this year for IM, although China Ironman dates have recently been announced  - will IM return? Think he will be on his own if he does! Most Ironman races are sold out a year in advance so unless you plan way ahead you just have to wait. Only one locked in for us is NZ 2012.

In the meantime, there is our local club races, the Huskisson Long Course, the NSW Club Champs, the ITU World Championships in Sydney (first time for age groupers - very exciting!), the Busselton 70.3 and hopefully Noosa Tri Festival which I have been wanting to return to for years!

The first thing I did this year was buy myself a smart yearly wall planner form Kikki-k stationary shop (I am obsessed with their stuff at the moment - so stylish and great ideas to help organise the home!) and started to map out what races when (as well as other family plans for the year) so I could look at the big picture - makes me feel organised even if it all changes over time.

What triathlons are your family heading to this year? I would love to hear.

In signing off, I just want to say thank you to my followers, my friends and my family (especially my Ironman) for all the support and encouragement you have shown in my new endeavour of writing about our triathlon lifestyle, designing my TriCrew supporter tees and my dream of TriCrew being a hub of information for triathlon supporters around the world - who knows where it will take me in 2011!

Wishing you and your triathletes a safe & healthy year, and happy times together xx
